THE HEART OF OUR MISSION
The Foundation of Hope is being established to advance the vision of Monsignor Hilary C. Franco, S.T.D., M.A., LLD a vision for a vocation of an extraordinary kind.
Throughout history, vocations have arisen to serve the suffering, care for the marginalized, and preserve sacred traditions. Monsignor Franco’s vision is distinct. It calls for a vocation in which the avowed themselves are the primary beneficiaries a calling rooted in dignity, purpose, belonging, and community.
In a world where the nuclear family is increasingly fragmented, many older adults are left isolated, lonely, and without a sense of meaning. At the same time, the concept of “quality of life” is too often misused to justify assisted suicide, disproportionately impacting the elderly.
This mindset reflects a materialistic culture that values productivity over personhood and its consequences are profound.

A Growing Crisis of Connection
Across modern society:
-
Families are increasingly fragmented.
-
Older adults are often isolated or displaced from meaningful roles.
-
“Quality of life” is too frequently defined by productivity rather than inherent dignity.
-
Loneliness and social isolation are rising at alarming levels.
When the elderly are removed from the fabric of daily life, entire generations suffer.
When Generations Are Separated
Children and older adults are the two groups most dependent on strong family bonds.
Without the presence of grandparents:
-
Children lose wisdom, heritage, and moral grounding.
-
Older adults lose daily purpose and relational connection.
-
Institutional settings cannot replace intergenerational love.
When generations are separated, the natural exchange of wisdom, guidance, and belonging begins to fade. The senior population is often the quiet anchors of family life, offering stability, perspective, and continuity. Lacking their daily presence, children lose mentorship and connection to heritage, while older adults lose meaningful roles and purpose.
A Growing Global Reality
The need for a new model is not theoretical, it is urgent.
-
The global population aged 65+ will more than double by 2050.
-
One in six people worldwide will be over the age of 65.
-
In the U.S., more than 1.2 million individuals reside in nursing homes.
-
Average nursing home costs exceed $108,000 annually.
-
43% of Americans aged 60+ report feeling lonely.
Loneliness is linked to increased risks of heart disease, depression, and cognitive decline.
The current system is financially unsustainable and spiritually insufficient.
Faith in Action: The Life and Legacy of Monsignor Hilary C. Franco
The communities envisioned by Monsignor Franco are an alternative solution to caring for the elderly; they are not nursing or adult care facilities. They are communities of people with the specific vocation of supporting each other as they enter into the last stages of their earthly journey. Each and every community member contributes according to their own means and abilities; each and every member is valued for what they can contribute whether it be helping in
administration, assisting each other in their needs, working in the kitchen or garden, or leading the community in prayer and meditation.
Monsignor Franco believes that once established, these communities will be rich in experience, knowledge, and wisdom. They will become valuable resources to the community at large with after school programs, tutoring, counseling, among many others.
Each community will be incorporated independently as a cooperative with each member sharing equal ownership and responsibility.
The purpose of the Foundation of Hope is to establish Community Centers that will house the members and provide suitable space for their activities. Once established, the property will be transferred to the members of each community that will be on its own to support itself and its members.
